A special cinema screening in Buncrana – with filmmaker Lia Philcox
Inishowen Sub Aqua Club is delighted to invite the local community to a free cinema screening of the beautiful and inspiring documentary Who Needs Anemones?, right here in Buncrana on Sunday April 26th at 4pm.
This captivating film follows a group of everyday scuba divers from both sides of the Irish border as they take an unexpected step beyond recreational diving — becoming citizen scientists. Through Seasearch Observer training and regular survey dives, these divers are helping to protect our marine environment by recording vital biodiversity data beneath the waves.
Filmed in and around Carlingford Lough, the documentary brings audiences face‑to‑face with a vibrant underwater world many of us never get to see. From colourful marine life to powerful personal stories, the film showcases the lough through stunning imagery captured by the divers themselves — proving that you don’t have to be a scientist to make a real contribution to conservation.
We’re especially excited to welcome filmmaker Lia Philcox, who will join us in person for a Q&A session after the screening, offering insight into the making of the film and the growing movement behind it. You’ll also have the chance to meet local divers, chat, and enjoy some light refreshments afterwards.
Whether you’re curious about the sea, passionate about the environment, or simply looking to find out more, this is an event not to be missed.
Come along, be inspired, and see how ordinary people are helping to protect the extraordinary world beneath our waters.
